Term 2 - Inquiry learning

Talofa everyone.

Our topic this term for inquiry is Sustainability. We have been learning about different animals and have been finding out about their habitats, predators, diet etc. Mrs Chignall brought in her guinea pigs Milo and Nutmeg. Room 1 children were so lucky to get up and close with them. We even got to feed them some citrus leaves!

Reminder:
Friday 3rd June - Teacher only day
Monday 6th June - Public holiday
- Children do not come to school on both of these days

Here are some group posters we made about some animals/birds. We worked so hard on our posters and you can see we are very proud of them!

Friday Maths Fun

Hello

This term we are focusing on measurement and probability for Friday Maths. Last term we focused on shapes. Here are some photos of activities that we have been doing.

This term - We had to cut out teddybears and measure them using linking cubes. We learned that we have to start measuring from the very bottom (so it is fair) and keep going until we reached the very top. Here are some photos of us measuring and counting. We then had to order the bears from tallest to shortest.

Last term - We had to make 2D shapes out of marshmallows and toothpicks. We decided how many corners (marshmallows) and sides (toothpicks) we needed for each shape. Some of us decided to take up Miss Fok's challenge and even make a 3D cube shape.

Crafty couple of weeks

Kia ora
We have been busy settling into routines and getting used to school!  Here are a few things we have made:

We read a book called "David goes to school" By David Shannon. We had to teach the main character - a boy called David the rules of school and how to be good.
Here are our Davids and what we taught him.
We made letter C cats for our letter of the week
We also made Ladybirds for maths and valentines day. We had to count how many hearts we used altogether, it was so fun!

Keep checking in for more updates and notices.

What we have been up to in Term 4 so far...

We have been learning about Probability - Chance for maths. We had to think of events for each of the keywords that determine the chance of an event; Impossible, Unlikely, Likely and Certain.
Here is our book of "Impossible" things.

We have also been learning about celebrations and festivals. As part of this, we have been learning all about the Rugby World Cup 2015. We have been so excited following the tournament by watching the highlights in class, learning the countries' flags and writing about the RWC. We especially love watching the All Blacks play!
We are also learning about Diwali. Room 1 did a play about Diwali and we acted out the parts of Sita, Rama and Ravana. It was so fun!

Here is our Diwali wall, we created the beautiful Rangoli patterns by collaging coloured paper.

Miss Fok has also taken some awesome photos of our classroom. Check them out..
